After The Texas Governor came out in support of free speech with proposed legislation, he is now going after social media platform Gab.
Are you kidding me?!
What the hell is this guy doing?!
Recently I wrote an article praising Texas Governor Greg Abbott for his proposed legislation in fighting big tech, and protecting our free speech.
Now look at what he’s done…..he’s going after Gab, a free speech platform.
This is a HUGE betrayal, I mean most people wait, but it hasn’t even been a full week since the news came out about Abbott’s free speech legislation!
Less than a week later, and he is out here railing against Gab.
What a scam, mend your ways Governor Abbott.
Here is more on the story:
The Texas Tribune reported:
A fight has broken out among Texas Republicans over Gab, the embattled social network favored by the far right.
The state GOP made clear Thursday it would not delete its Gab account after vice chair Cat Parks called on it to do so two days earlier — and got backup from Gov. Greg Abbott, who said “anti-Semitic platforms like Gab have no place in Texas.” That sparked fierce criticism from the company — and new questions from fellow some Republicans about Abbott’s own commitment to fighting perceived censorship by social media giants.
The party has had a Gab account since at least January, when GOP discussion over social media policy was at a fever pitch in the wake of Twitter’s decision to ban outgoing President Donald Trump after the deadly U.S. Capitol riot.
The Federalist had more on the story:
Gab’s CEO also blasted the governor for targeting the company for no apparent reason.
“There are many Jewish Gab users and customers, whose lawful speech we protect with just as much zeal as we would protect the lawful speech of any person of any faith, ethnicity, or creed,” Andrew Torba said in a statement topped with a header resembling Texas’s unofficial but popular “come and take it” flag design. “This is what America used to be like: a place where The People could speak freely regardless of their faith, ethnic background, or beliefs. This is the America Gab is fighting to preserve. Apparently, Gov. Abbott doesn’t agree.”
Torba also noted how the governor is sending mixed messages by denouncing Gab, a social media platform dedicated to free speech, just days after he announced legislation meant to curb Big Tech’s efforts to censor or deplatform users they disagree with, specifically conservatives.
