Florida Governor Ron DeSantis continues to position himself for a possible 2024 White House run, and on Wednesday he continued to make his case that he is a visionary leader.
During a news conference held in Naples, the Republican leader discussed his COVID management as well as the future of education in the Sunshine State.
DeSantis introduced a new proposal designed to make Florida a national leader in civics education. This is a stark reversal of the sad schools that have been hijacked by activists and turned into indoctrination mills for far-left ideology.
The governor announced that the state would create a Florida Civic Seal of Excellence that will reward teachers who complete civics training with a $3,000 bonus.
He also took aim at critical race theory, the controversial dogma that is being taught nationwide. The theory is based on the premise that America is a nation that was built on white supremacy, and that white children must acknowledge their place in an oppressive hierarchy.
DeSantis made it clear that “there’s no room in our classrooms for things like critical race theory, teaching kids to hate their country and to hate each other is not worth one red cent of taxpayer money.”

In denouncing this poisonous ideology DeSantis has provided an example for other Republican governors, just as he has with his response to COVID.
According to DeSantis; “I think if you look around the country, not just in Florida, over the last many years, maybe decades, understanding what our country was founded on, understanding the civic tradition, the Constitution, all these things has become very much a lost art. If you go into a lot of these universities now, even, and you want to study some of the foundational principles of our country and our society, it’s a lot harder to find those courses which would have been, in the past, something that everyone would be expected to know. Instead, they engage in these politicized academic fads, and offer courses that reflect which is really ideology, not actual facts.”
The governor also said that he wants all graduating high school students to pass a civics test (similar to the one administered to immigrants seeking to become U.S. citizens) as a part of the $106 million proposal for the state budget.
Governor DeSantis also continues to elevate his national profile with his COVID response, which has balanced mitigating the spread of the virus (by protecting the most vulnerable), and protecting civil liberties of citizens and businesses. His leadership has been among the best in the nation.
DeSantis was initially vilified by the same corrupt media that sang the praises of Andrew Cuomo, at a time when the New York Governor’s disastrous policies were responsible for the deaths of thousands of nursing home residents. The Florida Governor is now receiving the recognition that he deserves, even if much if it is done begrudgingly.
His successful management of one of America’s most populous states, and refusal to consider a new round of lockdowns, have put DeSantis at odds with the Biden administration. Joe and Kamala aren’t going to be happy that the Governor has now taken aim at the racist garbage that Democrat radicals have championed.
