In what might be the most shocking thing that has happened of late, a mainstream media reporter defended President Trump.

During a press briefing at the State Department, Spokesperson Ned Price was grilled by Associated Press reporter Matt Lee for taking credit for work on the coronavirus pandemic that was done by the Trump administration.

“And I think that demonstrates that our strategy, including the legislative strategy, the strategy that, of course, Congress has been behind, has been working to good effect,” Price said in reference to recent news involving a Russia-backed pipeline.

“We’ll continue to work closely with Germany, we’ll continue to work closely with our other allies and partners in Europe to uphold Europe’s own stated energy and security goals,” he added.

NED PRICE, STATE DEPARTMENT SPOKESMAN: And I think that demonstrates that our strategy, including the legislative strategy, the strategy that, of course, Congress has been behind, has been working to good effect. So we’ll continue to work closely with Germany, we’ll continue to work closely with our other allies and partners in Europe to uphold Europe’s own stated energy and security goals.

MATT LEE, ASSOCIATED PRESS REPORTER: Don’t you think it’s bit disingenuous to claim credit for the 18 companies winding down? All of this work was done in the previous administration, and you guys have only been … in office for a month. Right? Are you telling me that in the last four weeks, these 18 companies all of a sudden decide to say, ‘Oh my god! We better not doing anything with Nord Stream 2.”

PRICE: Matt, I am speaking for the–

LEE: All of that, you guys are taking credit for stuff that the previous administration did! No?

PRICE: Matt, I am speaking for the Department of State. The people who have been working this, the people who are working this now, we’re the same people a month ago, were the same people three months ago, three months ago.

Here’s more from Fox News on the Russian pipeline:

Price, highlighting a report sent to Congress, said some 18 entities have engaged in “good faith efforts” to scale back their involvement in Nord Stream 2, a controversial $11 billion pipeline project designed to transmit Russian natural gas to Germany.

Kremlin critics have said the project would double the amount of natural gas imported from Russia. If completed, it would leave Europe more dependent on Russian energy than ever before. The poisoning of Russian dissident Alexei Navalny has revitalized calls for the project to be abandoned.

At Monday’s press conference, Price said the Biden administration’s efforts led to the development on Nord Stream 2.

The aforementioned entities have wound down their activities in the pipeline project, Price said, and demonstrated that Biden and Congress’s strategy have been “working to good effect.”

But the reporter could not let Price get away with lying and actually called him because the work had begun under the Trump administration.
