Chris Wallace Confronts DHS Sec. Mayorkas About Lack of Media Access at Border: ‘Sounds Like an Excuse’

The administration of Joe Biden appears to be hiding something and surprisingly Fox News anchor Chris Wallace, who has shown himself to be an anti-Donald Trump bastion, grilled an administration official on it.

The interview happened on the “Fox News Sunday” show hosted by Chris Wallace when he spoke to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas about the limited media access at the Southern border, Mediaite reported.

“Why has the Biden administration refused to allow reporters to see for themselves and to record what the conditions are under which these minors are being housed?” Wallace said. “Why, in fact, did you — when you went to the border on Friday and led a congressional delegation — why did you refuse to allow reporters to see the conditions under which these minors are being held?”Mayorkas said that “we’re in the midst of a pandemic” and that “We are focused on our operations, executing our operations, in a crowded border patrol facility where hundreds of vulnerable migrant children are located.”

“We’re working on providing footage so that the American public can see the border patrol stations,” he said.

“Respectfully, sir, I think that there is a safe condition under which a pool reporter and a pool camera crew could go into some of these facilities — this has been going on for two months now — and record the conditions under which these minors are being held. It seems to me to say it’s impossible to do because of covid sounds like an excuse,” Wallace said.

“We’re working on providing access,” Mayorkas said. “And certainly reporters can see the Department of Health and Human Services facilities in which children are sheltered for a longer period of time.”

Biden and his lax immigration policies and the fact that he has been practically begging migrants to come to the border for over a year are what created this new crisis.

Trump had the border under control and once Biden took office, the crisis occurred.

CNN’s John Avlon said Wednesday night that Biden “can’t afford to ignore” the problem at the U.S. southern border and that the administration’s change in immigration policies played a big role in the crisis.

Avlon said that the Biden administration has a “humanitarian crisis” on its hands and that they bear responsibility for it.

“There is a spike of apprehensions at the southern border. Over 100,000 in February alone. That included nearly 9,600 kids, many unaccompanied by adults,” Avlon said.

“The recent rise began in the final months of Trump’s term, but it’s escalated since Biden took office. The border is not open, that’s false, but it is fair to say that Biden’s retraction of a Trump policy, which made people seeking asylum wait on the Mexican side of the border, has contributed to the rise,” he added.

A new report from CNN on Monday revealed that children detained in an overcrowded government-run tent facility at the US-Mexico border say they haven’t been able to shower for days or contact their parents.

Some children get to shower about once a week and sometimes soap runs out, with only shampoo available, she said. One child told Welch she hadn’t showered in six days.

Things are so bad that Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is asking DHS staff to “volunteer” to help deal with what he conceded was an “overwhelming” number of migrants at the border.
