Joe Biden’s problems regarding the southern border just got worse.
Biden is “under investigation” for halting billions of dollars in payments that were approved and set to be paid to private companies selected to finish President Donald Trump’s border wall.
On his first day in office, Biden hit pause on billions of dollars set to be spent on his predecessor’s long-touted barrier between the U.S. and Mexico while his administration figured out the next steps for the money.
Now the Government Accountability Office is launching a review to determine whether the new president broke the law by freezing the money in violation of budget rules designed to keep Congress in control of the cash flow, the federal watchdog confirmed this week.
The probe highlights the challenge presidents have historically faced in fulfilling campaign promises that require money to be spent — or suspended — at odds with Congress’ intent.

Forty Senate Republicans said in a letter to the Government Accountability Office that in “the weeks that followed” Biden suspending construction of the border wall that “operational control of our southern border was comprised and a humanitarian and national security crisis has ensued.”
The letter added:
The President’s actions directly contributed to this unfortunate, yet entirely avoidable, scenario. They are also a blatant violation of federal law and infringe on Congress’s constitutional power of the purse. We write regarding these actions. We believe they violated the Impoundment Control Act (ICA), as interpreted by your office, and we request your legal opinion on the matter. Prompt action to end these violations is required to restore order at the border.
Former Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security Alexei Woltornist, who served in the Trump administration, is calling on Congress to investigate the Biden administration’s “cover-up” of the crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy went off after visiting a massive facility overflowing with illegal immigrants, saying it was “worse than we thought.”
“Mr. President, our border patrol agents are overwhelmed, and they deserve the help of their federal government. I am calling on you to put politics aside. Let’s work together for the security of our nation and the betterment of our people,” he said.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell did not mince his words either when discussing Joe Biden’s handling of the crisis.
During an interview on Fox News, McConnell flat-out said that Biden “owns” the border crisis, and that, “It is, by definition, an emergency.”
“The previous administration did an excellent job on border security; this administration is stopping funding for the wall, as an example. How is that helpful?” he asked, rhetorically.
“Stopping the agreement with the Mexican government to contain people on the other side of the border? How is that helpful? This is a crisis. I don’t care what the Secretary of Homeland Security wants to call it; it’s a crisis.”
Things have gotten so bad that even left-wing Fox News anchor Chris Wallace, who has shown himself to be an anti-Trump bastion, grilled an administration official on it.
Wallace grilled Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas about the limited media access at the Southern border.
