‘That Is Going to Be a Slap In the Face’: Ron DeSantis Torches Biden Admin For Negotiating $450k Payments to Illegal Migrants While Ordinary Americans Having Trouble Paying ‘Bills’

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis made clear Monday he doesn’t agree in the slightest with a Biden administration effort to pay out hundreds of millions in taxpayer dollars to migrants who broke U.S. law sneaking into the country in recent years.

The GOP governor was responding to a report last week in The Wall Street Journal claiming the administration is working to settle dozens of lawsuits filed by illegal migrants with payouts of around $450,000 each, or up to $1 million per family.

“The U.S. Departments of Justice, Homeland Security, and Health and Human Services are considering payments that could amount to close to $1 million a family, though the final numbers could shift, the people familiar with the matter said,” the paper reported, citing people familiar with the talks.

“Most of the families that crossed the border illegally from Mexico to seek asylum in the U.S. included one parent and one child, the people said. Many families would likely get smaller payouts, depending on their circumstances, the people said,” according to the paper.

“In another instance, a Department of Homeland Security attorney involved in the settlement talks complained on a conference call that the payouts could amount to more than some families of 9/11 victims received, one person said,” the WSJ added.

DeSantis blasted the administration for considering payouts to illegals while ordinary Americans are increasingly suffering under Biden administration policies which have lead to historic inflation.

“I’m very, very concerned about reports” he has heard regarding the payouts, the governor noted.

“I mean, you think about it, Americans are getting more in their gas bills, they’re getting more in their grocery bills. You’ve had all kinds of really bad policies throughout our country, that has limited freedom. And you’re going to turn around for that, and you’re going to do $475,000 for an individual that came illegally to this country?” he said.

“I’ve seen a lot in my day. I’ve seen a lot that’s happened over the last nine or 10 months that I didn’t think I’d ever see, but this takes the cake,” DeSantis added. “If that is done, that is going to be a slap in the face to every hard-working American who works hard and plays by the rules and it will especially being a slap in the face to people that have immigrated legally to this country.

“That should not be allowed to stand. It’s wrong. And whatever we can do in Florida to fight back against it, we will do,” he continued.
