The CNN reporter who called the Taliban “friendly” as they chanted “Death to America” now claims two Taliban fighters tried to “pistol whip” CNN’s producer who was recording video footage.

“Two Taliban fighters just came up with their pistols, and they were ready to pistol whip [the producer],” CNN Chief International Correspondent Clarissa Ward said during an interview on Wednesday. “We had to intervene and scream.”

According to Ward, another fighter intervened and stop the attackers, telling the other fighters that they were journalists.

Ward also described the chaotic scene outside Hamid Karzai International Airport where fearful Afghan citizens and stranded foreign nationals including Americans are attempting to flee the nation. She said Taliban soldiers are making it extremely difficult for people to get through their checkpoints and to the airfield for evacuation.

“This was mayhem,” Ward said. “This was nuts. This was impossible for an ordinary civilian, even if they had their paperwork. No way they’re running that gauntlet. No way they’re going to be able to navigate that.”

The development from Ward is extremely ironic considering on Monday, she used the word “friendly” to describe the Taliban terrorists.

Ward explained that it was “clear” that the Taliban was in “charge” of Afghanistan.

At one point during the interview, the Taliban terrorists chanted “death to America” which ward interpreted as them just being “friendly.”

“As soon as we leave our compound, it’s clear who is now in charge,” Ward stated. “Taliban fighters have flooded the capital. Smiling and victorious, they took this city of 6 million people in a matter of hours — barely firing a shot. This is a sight I honestly thought I would never see: scores of Taliban fighters, and just behind us, the U.S. embassy compound. Some carry American weapons. They tell us they’re here to maintain law and order.”

One of the Taliban commanders told her “everything is under control” and that America needs to “leave” Afghanistan.

“‘Everything is under control. Everything will be fine,’ the commander says. ‘Nobody should worry,’” she reported.

“What’s your message to America right now?” Ward asked.

“‘America already spent enough time in Afghanistan,’” she translated. “‘They need to leave,’ he tells us. ‘They already lost lots of lives and lots of money.’”

CNN also showed a clip of Taliban members holding guns up in the air and chanting.

“They’re just chanting, ‘Death to America,’ but they seem friendly at the same time,” Ward said. “It’s utterly bizarre.”
